TranscriptSent the Oxford paperback Chekhovs to Walker along with a note urging him to read “My Life,” for its modernity & resemblance to his own work. Blockbuster Video; returned Hugs’s VCRs & paid the overdue fine. Stopped at Warren Radio on way back; got two 60-min. metal cassettes, one of which I used to record a Kodály tape – solo cello sonata & the violin-cello duo. Ken Burns called; wants me to come up to NY, April 11-12, for a showing of his War; answer questions from VIP viewers. Said, too, we’ll be studying the first five “programs” on cassette in a few days. *I called Scholar’s Bookshelf & was told my expected 3-vol. Tovey will be shipped “three or four weeks.” I had thought it might have been lost in the mail. Steak for dinner; bottle of Haut-Medoc. Skipped walk because of rain. Reading Chekhov’s “The Steppe,” the only one of his major (full length) stories I hadnt read before. |
