TranscriptFrenchmen – Catfish Point. 7 p.m.
Left at 3.15 for Catfish Point Hunting Club, on the Mississippi across from the lower end of Lake Bolivar. Met in Benoit by Clarke Reed, who guided me over the graveled & dusty roads. Some fifty-odd people assembled for dinner (catfish, cole slaw, hush puppies) & to hear me speak afterwards on the Delta, its history & customs. I thought it went rather well. Back by 11 – only occupant of the lodge. Read Proust till near midnight, then turned out light for another decent night's sleep. |
