TranscriptJackson. Call from Gwyn; yard work going well.
Leisure breakfast, then walked to the old capitol museum. Visited all three floors, exhibits of all kinds. Saw head-shot photo of Robert Johnson – first, ever. Afterwards, walked over to Dept. of Archives & History – where authorities could find no trace of my “Ride Out” manuscript, deposited there nearly thirty years ago. Promised to search & let me know the outcome. Back to Buie & “As World Turns,” then to Mayflower Cafe with Luke Lampton; ate broiled trout. Lecture in evening; jam packed auditorium, students & citizens; read Preface to Tournament, then a half-hour Q. & A. period. Went well, all round. Reception afterward, then supper & drinks in downtown yuppie restaurant with Billy Percy & his fiancée. Home soon after 11. (To my surprise, Miss. Pub. TV gave me a check for $150 after I jokingly asked what they were going to pay me.) |
