TranscriptHuger: tea-room job
Joined Hugs in right-bank tea shop & room, where he was shooting an assignment for a NY magazine; then walked to a wineglass store on R. Verrerie, near his former apartment. Taxi to Hilditch & Key; exchanged size 40 undershirt for a 42 to allow for shrinkage. We walked back through Tuilleries, for half-dozen Mailion sculptures, Hugs snapping more than 100 photos of me in raincoat & hat en route. Wore me out. Crossed Pont Royal, then along R. du Bac to hotel. Dinner at Le Voltaire, Hugs & Marie with us. Cost $434 mainly because of an 840ff bottle of Palmer. Good food all around; snails, rognon entire, apple compote for me. Bankrupt, down to the final franc. TV in room from midnight till past 1 a.m. Read more of Nabokov’s “The Gift,” liking it better than at home or on plane coming over. |
